Excellent piece! I too find myself in the odd position of agreeing with many of the policy proposals of Mr. Sanders and Ms. Warren, while simultaneously being repulsed by identity politics. The left is a fragmented, overly heterodox mob of clashing ideologies. Its failure to hang together is its greatest weakness. The Republicans were mostly in the “anybody but Trump” group, but once he was nominated, they all fell in line behind him and got him elected. Meanwhile, lots of people on the left refused to vote for Ms. Clinton because she wasn’t pure enough for them. As Will Rogers once quipped, “I am not a member of any organized political party. I’m a Democrat.”
