Here’s something you apparently didn’t know about female psychology: as Henry Kissinger said, “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac”. Some women are attracted to powerful men. Why in the world do you think that a woman like Melania Trump would have married that fat, ugly brute? The attraction can be so intense for some women that they all but throw themselves at the object of their obsession.
This doesn’t mean, of course, that all sex between women and powerful men is voluntary; we also know that powerful men sometimes abuse their power to coerce women into sex. Our problem is that we don’t know whether any particular relationship is a matter of coercion or attraction. I think it best in all cases of sex between women and powerful men to simply ask the woman, “Were you coerced?” and give great weight to her answer. We certainly cannot place much credence on the man’s answer, as he has every incentive to claim — and actually believe — that his wonderful masculinity seduced the woman.
I do not recall that Ms. Lewinsky ever declared that she was coerced into having sex with Mr. Clinton; correct me if I’m wrong. It seems to me that this was a voluntary sexual relationship between consenting adults and was therefore nobody else’s business, except of course for Ms. Clinton.
It’s a shame to see such good writing tainted by so much venom.
