I heartily agree with the statement of principles that you offer. Indeed, I find it much more compelling than some of the pie-in-the-sky promises being made by some Democratic candidates.

But are such lofty principles within the ken of American voters? 60 million of them fell for the preposterous lies Mr. Trump peddled, and perhaps 40 million of them still nod their heads obediently at the ongoing freshet of lies emerging from Mr. Trump’s Twitter account. Is the American body politic smart enough to understand the principles we both honor?

I realize that peddling to the lowest element of our society debases it. I fear that the intellectual requirements of 21st century American citizenship have risen about the educational level of the average American citizen. What do you think?
