“Impeachment for a crime depends on whose defining what is a crime…”
The Constitution does not define what comprises a “high crime and misdemeanor”. It does list bribery as a justification for impeachment, and extortion (as Mr. Trump committed) is simply bribery in reverse order.
“Do you think the house manglers would be so bloodthirsty if a Dem was being impeached?”
Certainly if they were Republicans. What I would hope for is that everybody would simply do all this by the book, without any political influence. After all, the Senators swore an oath to carry out their deliberations impartially. If they did, there’s no doubt that Mr. Trump would be unanimously convicted.
“If a Dem wins the office, GOP will surely eventually move to impeach.”
That seems likely in the highly polarized environment in which we live. All of which appears to mean that the republic is doomed to collapse.
