Modern Monetary Theory continues to be rejected by a strong majority of economists. I will not repeat the many arguments bandied about by both sides; the Internet has more material on the question than anybody can read. I have sampled that material and, while my sense is that the MMT theorists don’t have a good case, I am certainly not competent to argue against an economist on the issue. Are you?
I think that, for the moment, the most prudent course of action is to respect the advice of the majority of the experts. Let them argue it, and if the majority shifts in favor of MMT, then the larger public can begin the debate on the political implications.
