“While the U.S. military, with support from Brazil, Colombia, and opposition groups, tried to force humanitarian aid through the Venezuela border”

Oh, come on! “Take this food and medicine or we’ll blow your head off.” Give me a break!

“what Maduro is opposing is the weaponization of aid by the Trump administration, which is intended to stir rebellion and reinvigorate a floundering coup attempt led by Juan Guaido.”

Mr. Maduro is the one politicizing aid. The US placed no conditions on the aid. It has a long tradition of providing humanitarian aid even to its enemies. This is just one more instance of that policy.

And Mr. Guaido was properly elected by means generally judged to be fair, whereas Mr. Maduro grossly rigged the election. If Mr. Maduro’s election was fair, then why did he prevent election monitors from witnessing the election?

The Maduro regime has impoverished the Venezuelan people. They are fleeing the country in their millions. It is an evil kleptocracy that oppresses its people. I do not favor US military intervention. The Venezuelan people are revolting against the Maduro regime. It is only a matter of time before he is thrown out of office. If he agrees to leave peacefully, then he should be granted asylum in Cuba. If not, then he’ll certainly deserve the bloody end that he will bring down upon himself. In the meantime, the only thing that other countries can ethically do is offer temporary asylum to the refugees, provide as much humanitarian aid as they can, and wait for this tragedy to end.
